Julia Blitz practiced as a family doctor across many regions of South Africa in both private and public health care. She was in academic Family Medicine for 25 years before moving into health professions education. In 2021, she retired from being the Vice-Dean: Learning and Teaching at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, but continues to work with medical schools nationally and regionally in their development of relevant curricula. She has been involved in selection (including using innovative methods) policy and support of students under-represented in undergraduate medicine at Stellenbosch University, as well as in collaborative international projects.
