Since February 2021, Dr. Austin Demby has been the Minister of Health and Sanitation of the Government of Sierra Leone. He has demonstrated leadership in infectious disease programming and research within the USG CDC, HRSA, HSS, and PEPFAR. As Director and Deputy Principal for PEPFAR, Dr. Demby managed the $2 Billion global interagency HIV/AIDS portfolio. Dr. Demby was among the first to sound the alarm bell to the Ebola situation in Sierra Leone and was deployed there five times. Dr. Demby holds a doctorate degree in Clinical Microbiology, a master’s degree in public health-epidemiology/biostatistics, and a Bachelor of Science.
