Benilda Batzin Maya Tz'utujil, originally from San Pedro La Laguna, has a degree in Social Work and has worked on issues of community development and environmental protection. Serves as a link between CEGSS staff and defenders, provides accompaniment, capacity building for defenders, and coordinates strategies to improve the right to health for the indigenous population in some areas of Guatemala. In October 2019, she was elected by the CEGSS team itself as the new executive director and at the same time continues to support defenders. He has participated in different spaces providing testimony on access to health and the needs of indigenous peoples and the most prominent was in the General Assembly of the United Nations in April 2019.
