Dr. Pooja Yerramilli is a Health Specialist (Young Professionals Program) in the Health, Nutrition, and Population (HNP) Global Practice for West and Central Africa. She supports regional projects on health emergency preparedness, response, and resilience, and the representation of the World Bank to the Pandemic Fund. Immediately prior to joining the World Bank, she practiced medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital while serving as the Policy Advisor for Seed Global Health (a non-profit that focuses on strengthening the global health workforce). Previously, she led and contributed to analytical and policy work on health equity – spanning social determinants of health including universal health coverage, primary health care, and non-communicable diseases - at the World Health Organization, Harvard University, and several NGOs including the Young Professionals Chronic Disease Network (YP-CDN). She completed her BA in Political Science (concentrating on global health politics & policy) at Yale University; MSc in Health Policy, Planning, and Financing at LSE/LSHTM; and MD at University of Pennsylvania. She completed her residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine/Global Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard). She is Board-Certified and licensed to practice Internal Medicine in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Massachusetts, USA; a member of the Editorial Board for PLOS Global Public Health; and an Academic Affiliate at Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health.
