She has held numerous political and academic key positions including: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of the Hashemite University, Chairperson of The Higher Education Council, Senator in the Upper House of the Jordanian Parliament, Minister of state for Government Performance, Minister of Social Development, Acting Minister of Health, Director General of King Abdullah University teaching Hospital, and Vice President and Secretary General of the National Council for Family Affairs. Al Maaitah is currently Commissioner at the WHO Global Commission on Social Determinants of Health/Geneva, member of the Regional Technical Advisory Committee to the Regional Director of the EMR, and member of the healthcare and education committees of the Jordan Economic Modernization Vision. Lately completed different Senior Executive Education Programs in leadership and power at Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She is a recipient of Abdul Hameed Shoman Medical Sciences Award for Young Arab Scientists as well as the Honorary Fellowship of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. Al Maaitah is a recipient of the Order of the State Centennial 2021, the Order of the Star of Jordan (Wisam al-Kawkab al-Urdani) in 2003 and the Bahraini Decoration of the Second Order in 2006.
