The first female Minister for Health for the Kingdom of Tonga from 2019 to 2021 and led the response to the measles outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic in Tonga without deaths, during her leadership. Prior to this she was the national Chief Nursing Officer. Her PhD work informed Tonga’s National Professional Standards for the Registered Nurse, mandated by Act in 2021. Amelia received the Knight Grand Cross: Royal Order of the Crown of the Kingdom of Tonga from His Majesty King Tupou VI in 2021. She is committed to supporting the globe’s largest health care professions─ nurses and midwives - to transform health system, promote health and well-being, and serve the vulnerable.
